Oy, it's been a long day
Actually, it's been a long week. Actually, it's been....
Well, you get the idea.
Anyway, there's a meme going around right now where you ask for someone to write first kisses between fictional characters. Since I apparently suck at actually doing memes right now, I decided I'd just go ahead and write something for myself. Because I really need something to cheer myself up right now.
So here's Tara and Xander's first kiss. No warnings, except kissing.
"Okay, first of all...."
"Wait," Xander interrupts. "First of all? Aren't we overthinking this?"
Willow sighs, but Tara can tell that she's more amused than annoyed. "No. I am not overthinking this," she says, and Tara smiles and leans back a little into her embrace. "Xander, I'm trying to give you advice on how to kiss Tara. You should listen."
"And I think maybe I should be a little offended that you think I need advice," Xander says, giving her a playful grin from his place at the other end of the couch.
He's putting up a good front, but Tara can see that he's nervous. She wonders if he's as nervous as she is. There's a lot riding on this, after all, and they probably should have done this sooner, but she needed time to work herself up to it. She likes Xander, a lot, but she's still not quite sure if this, if... the three of them, him and her and Willow, is going to work for her.
Still, there's only one way to find out. "Willow, honey," she says, turning her head to look at her, "I think we should just... you know, do it. I mean, half the fun is finding out what the other person likes as you go."
Willow thinks for a moment. "Okay, that's a good point," she concedes, smiling brightly at her. She's not nearly as anxious as Tara is, and Tara envies her for that, though she realizes it's probably because she's had the chance to get a lot of it out of her system already. After all, Willow had done most of the talking earlier. Xander, do you think.... Anya's been gone for a while now, do you think maybe we could.... I mean, if you want to....
So now it's her turn. She sits up, facing Xander again, and he moves to the middle of the couch, sitting next to her. She fights down the butterflies in her stomach as he looks into her eyes.
"Are you sure about this?" he asks softly.
Tara smiles by way of answer, and Xander leans in, but she pulls away just as his lips brush hers.
"Sorry," she says, and she can feel herself blushing. "Sorry. I just...."
"Hey. It's okay," Xander says. He smiles at her, and it's so open, so genuine, that she can't help but relax a little. He rests his hand on her thigh, rubbing her through her skirt, and Willow kisses her neck softly, and just like that she's feeling better about this. She doesn't want to wait anymore; she's still nervous, but she can't deny that she's excited now, too.
So she licks her lips and gives Xander her best "come hither" look, only this time, when he leans in, she meets him halfway. He presses his lips to hers, lingering there, and his excitement is so palpable that she's more than a little amazed at his restraint. She opens her mouth a little, and she can taste something sweet on his tongue and Willow is warm and soft against her back and suddenly she feels warm all over, too.
She expected Xander to be more... forceful, and now she feels a little guilty about that, for making assumptions just because he's a man. Not all men are the same, and being forceful isn't Xander's way, and she kind of loves that about him.
Xander rubs Tara's shoulders softly, and she leans into him, sighing into his mouth. Willow reaches for the back of Xander's head, running her fingers through his hair, and she dips her head to kiss Tara's neck again, murmuring words of encouragement in her ear that Tara doesn't hear so much as feel. It's all such a rush, and her heart is racing, and she doesn't stop until she finally has to for lack of air.
After she pulls back, tingles of exhilaration run through her when she sees that Xander's flushed and breathing heavily. And when Willow moves around from behind her, Tara shivers when she sees that the excitement in his eyes is mirrored in Willow's, too.
Yeah. This was going to work just fine.

As always, I love feedback.
